The verification rule
A rating figure, a review count, or a quoted line appears on this site only if a named person on this team opened the source page directly and read it. A search-engine snippet, an AI-generated summary, or a number quoted by a third-party aggregator is not sufficient on its own — if the underlying page cannot be opened and confirmed, the figure does not get published, no matter how many secondary sources repeat it.
This produces a page with visible gaps rather than a page that looks complete. That is a deliberate trade: a rating table with four confirmed rows is more useful to a reader making a five-figure decision than a table with five rows, one of which was estimated.
What happens when a source can't be verified
Three platforms were checked for a Lindblad Expeditions rating and could not be confirmed, for three different reasons. TripAdvisor was checked too, and is not in this list — its page opened cleanly and its figure is in the table above.
- Glassdoor — this is an employee-review platform, not a traveller-review one, and was checked specifically because an internal disconnect between the booking office and the ships, if confirmed, would be a genuinely rare finding. Every attempt to open it was blocked by an access challenge. A search-engine snippet suggested a figure and a theme, but this site does not publish what it could not open itself, so nothing from Glassdoor appears anywhere on this site.
- Yelp — the page rendered a blank body across three different listing URLs tried. A search-engine snippet referenced review text without an aggregate rating or count, so nothing from Yelp is published here either.
- Reddit — this platform carries no aggregate rating in the first place. Specific threads discussing Lindblad Expeditions exist, but this site's tools could not open Reddit directly to read and verify them, so none is cited.
The alternative — publishing a number pulled from a snippet, or estimating a plausible figure — would look more complete and be less honest. This site takes the first option every time that choice comes up.
How ratings are compared, not blended
Where two verified sources disagree — and Cruise Critic's 4.4 and Travelstride's 4.8 for Lindblad do disagree, by four-tenths of a point — this site does not average them into one number. Averaging hides the reason they disagree: Travelstride's sample is six times smaller than Cruise Critic's, several of its reviews are five years old, and two describe a different operator by name. Where this site makes a comparative claim about an operator's rating, it says which platform that claim is based on and why, rather than presenting a single blended figure as if the underlying samples were equivalent.
Quotation policy
Where a review is quoted directly rather than paraphrased, four rules apply without exception:
- No quoted fragment runs longer than fifteen words.
- No single review is quoted more than once.
- Every quote links directly to the source page it came from.
- A review is never quoted unless the page it appears on was opened and read directly — the same rule that governs rating figures applies to quotes.
One review discussed on the Lindblad Expeditions page — a widely-read Svalbard sailing titled "VERY Disappointed" — could not be opened directly; its content is described from converging third-party summaries rather than quoted, and is labelled that way rather than presented as a first-hand read.
What this site does not do
This site does not publish schema.org Review or AggregateRating markup anywhere. That markup is reserved for a site's own first-party verified reviews, and this site has none — every figure here comes from third-party platforms, named as such. Marking third-party aggregated figures up as if they were this site's own reviews would misrepresent them to search engines and readers alike.
This site also does not claim a personal voyage. Nobody on this editorial team has sailed with Lindblad Expeditions or any operator reviewed on this site. What is published here is a read of the public review record, not a first-hand account, and it is presented as exactly that.
